⛸️ Kim Yuna's Senior GP Debut 5th, Seo Min-gyu 3rd in Short! This Week in Figure Skating 🎉 - 2026.10.25 | Figure Skating

Hello, fans! 🙌 The results of Kim Yu-seong's free skate in her senior Grand Prix debut are in. After finishing 4th in the short program and eyeing a medal, expectations were high, and this was a performance full of jumps that had us cheering and sighing ⛸️

Kim Yu-seong Finishes 5th in Senior Debut

Kim Yu-seong scored 123.85 in the free skate at the ISU Senior Grand Prix 1st event in Angers, France on the 25th, for a total of 192.57 and 5th place ^[3]. The medal slipped away, but it was a meaningful debut in the senior field 💪 Nakai Ami of Japan won gold with 219.74 ^[1].

Jump Struggles, But She Held On

The opening triple Axel landed steadily, but a quarter landing call cost her 1.03 in GOE ^[1]. The triple flip-triple toe combination was clean, but she put a hand down on the triple loop landing and took a deduction ^[6].

The later part, where bonus points apply, was tough 😢 The triple Lutz got an attention call and a wobbly landing, and instead of the planned triple Lutz-triple Salchow-double Axel, she had to finish with an Euler and a double Salchow ^[1]. A 14.85 base value element dropped to 6.62, with a 2.36 GOE deduction ^[6].

Still, she earned Level 4 for her flying camel spin and step sequence, and even after the jump errors, she delivered a Level 4 change-foot combination spin to finish 👏 Yoon Seo-jin (Hangwa High School) scored 132.56 and placed 12th of 12 ^[1].

Seo Min-gyu Aims for a Medal After 3rd in Short 🔥

In men's singles, Seo Min-gyu placed 3rd in the short program and is in medal contention ^[5]. His total was 83.83, with Adam Siao Him Fa of France first at 102.46 and Alexandr Selevko of Estonia second at 85.49 ^[2].

He fell on the opening quadruple Salchow, a big mistake, but the rest of his program was very steady ✨ He landed a clean triple Axel and executed the triple flip-triple toe combination perfectly in the later part ^[2]. His spins and step sequence all earned Level 4 ^[4]. He fell just short of his personal best of 86.68 set at last year's Junior World Championships, but his competitiveness in his first senior event is promising ^[4].

Seo is considered the next leading men's singles skater for Korea, following Cha Jun-hwan 🇰🇷 Medal colors will be decided in the free skate on the night of the 25th, so let's send our cheers! 📣
