๐ป Violinist Kim Seo-hyun, 17, on SBS Curtain Call & KBS Chulbal FM's October Lineup! - 2026.10.13
Hello, fans! ๐ถ Here's another helping of classical news for you~
๐ป Violinist Kim Seo-hyun, the 17-Year-Old Artist, Shares Her Heart
The star of this news is violinist Kim Seo-hyun! In 2023, at just 14, she won the Tibor Varga International Competition and drew attention as a rising star. She appeared on SBS Curtain Call Episode 320 [2]. Recently, she also received the Daewon Music Award for New Artist, one of the most prestigious honors in Korea's classical music scene. Amazing, right? ๐ After graduating from Yewon School, she prepared for study abroad through homeschooling and is now studying at the Kronberg Academy in Germany [2].
What really made my heart flutter was the story of the 'Dragonetti' violin that had been sleeping in a Swiss vault ๐ This priceless instrument is sponsored for an indefinite period. The episode also covers sponsorship of her strings (Larsen Strings) and bow, a reminder of the support behind the stage [2].
The broadcast also features live performances! Faurรฉ's Violin Sonata No. 1, third movement; Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2, third movement; and Hubay's 'Die Abendglocken' (arranged by Kreisler). A treat for your ears ๐ง [2]
When Kim said she wants to enjoy 'music itself' rather than competition results, and to put 'sincerity' above technique, I underlined it right away ๐ Her point that German music schools value 'speaking ability' as well as playing skill is also a fascinating one [2].
๐ป KBS Chulbal FM: October Lineup Check!
The October 12 (Mon) broadcast features the third movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. It's Lim Yun-chan on piano with Marin Alsop conducting the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. A must-listen for fans! ๐น [3] Other gems include the third movement of Brahms' Symphony No. 3, Bruch's Romance for Viola, and the third movement of Schumann's Piano Concerto [3].
Today, October 13 (Tue), brings the first movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 'Fate.' Leonidas Kavakos (violin), Yo-Yo Ma (cello), and Emanuel Ax (piano) together? Just that combo makes my heart skip ๐ [4] Baek Kun-woo's Schumann 'Kinderszenen' No. 7 'Trรคumerei' and No. 1 'Von fremden Lรคndern und Menschen' are also on the list [4].
The October theme of the monthly feature 'Classical of the Month' is 'Preview Christmas Music' ๐ With carols from the Paris-Namu Cross Children's Choir's 1982 album, including 'Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,' the year-end mood is already here [4]. Chung Myung-whun's conducting of Vivaldi's 'Gloria' and Mozart's 'Ave Verum Corpus' is also not to be missed [4].
๐ค An Apartment Concert in Wonju
Here's a different kind of news! The Wonju City Choir held a 'Visiting Apartment Concert' at Bongwhasan Bellacity 2nd Apartment in Dangye-dong, Wonju ๐๏ธ [1] The program included the tenor aria 'La donna รจ mobile' from Verdi's opera 'Rigoletto,' and a soprano-tenor duet of the trot song 'Cho-hon' sung in vocal style. Residents swaying along made it a heartwarming scene โบ๏ธ [1]
The concert series began in 2020 to bring cultural performances to citizens who found it hard to visit concert halls during COVID-19 [1]. According to the July article, the second-half concerts were scheduled at 10 performances each for the first and second halves of the year. Wouldn't you want them to visit your neighborhood too? ๐ต
See you in the next update! May your days be filled with beautiful melodies ๐
