🏂 Yoo Seung-eun's $370 Board Miracle & Winter Sports Hot Issues! - 2026.03.22🏂 Yoo Seung-eun's $370 Board Miracle & Winter Sports Hot Issues! - 2026.03.22

Hello, fans! It's Milano-Wonjeong-reo 😆 The excitement from the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics hasn't faded yet, right? It's been a month since the Olympics ended, but amazing behind-the-scenes stories of our athletes and hot issues in the ice skating world keep pouring in. Grab your popcorn because I've packed today's newsletter with all the hottest news!

🏂 Snowboard Fairy Yoo Seung-eun's Miracle with a 500,000 Won Board!

Yoo Seung-eun, who became Korea's first-ever freestyle snow sports medalist by winning bronze in Snowboard Big Air at the age of 18, appeared on the variety show 'Omniscient Interfering View' ^[1]. The behind-the-scenes stories revealed on the broadcast were absolutely tear-jerking 😭.

Yoo Seung-eun suffered a series of injuries, including a fractured collarbone and ankle in 2024, and a wrist fracture last November ^[1]. Everyone's hearts broke when her mother confessed that even when her ankle ligaments were completely torn at a competition in Switzerland, she squeezed into an economy class seat with a broken ankle to save on airfare ^[1]. Furthermore, because there are zero training facilities in Korea, she had to spend over 100 million won out of pocket a year to train in Japan, where living expenses are relatively cheaper, which is why she had to choose the Big Air discipline ^[3].

The most surprising part is the equipment story! While athletes usually receive sponsors to ride custom-made boards, Yoo Seung-eun didn't have a sponsor, so she bought a 500,000 won (approx. $370) carryover product herself to compete ^[2]. Riding that cheap board, she perfectly executed a 1440-degree rotation trick that only 5 female athletes in the world can do. Isn't that literally a comic book hero's narrative? 🤩 An icon of fighting spirit who dramatically won her Olympic ticket by jumping from 55th in the rankings to 2nd place in the final competition right before the Olympics! She's giving all her 100 million won prize money to her mother and donating her broadcast appearance fee to a stray dog center. She's absolutely perfect inside and out ^[1].

🎿 Ski Queen Lindsey Vonn's Shocking Update After Escaping Leg Amputation

Heartbreaking updates have also arrived regarding Lindsey Vonn, who suffered a horrific crash just 13 seconds into the Alpine Skiing Downhill race at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics last February ^[4].

Vonn, who was urgently transported by helicopter from the Cortina d'Ampezzo Tofane Center, suffered a severe compound fracture in her left leg ^[4]. Her bones were shattered, and combined with 'compartment syndrome' where pressure in the muscle rises due to bleeding, she had to undergo a massive 6-hour surgery just to prevent leg amputation 😱 ^[4]. She recently uploaded a video on SNS of her going out with her dog on a mobility scooter for the first time in about a month, showing she is still unable to walk. While recalling it as "by far the most extreme and painful injury I've ever experienced in my life," she added upbeat music to the video, trying not to lose her signature cheerfulness, and fans around the world are sending waves of support ^[4].

⛸️ Hwang Dae-heon's Significant Move & Lim Jong-eon's Bold Ambition

The short track world is also very hot! As Hwang Dae-heon announced he would soon express his official position, the CEO of his agency personally requested temporary measures against Namuwiki documents related to the controversies, such as the 'Lim Hyo-jun sexual harassment false accusation incident', citing 'false facts' ^[5].

Although Hwang's side has requested deletions several times in the past, this action is drawing even more attention because it comes at a time when interest is focused on Lin Xiaojun (Lim Hyo-jun) returning to the Olympics as a Chinese representative, and after Hwang himself declared he would "correct the facts" ^[5]. Document access is blocked until April 16th, and everyone is holding their breath to see what kind of statement he will release.

Meanwhile, the heartwarming interview of short track national team member Lim Jong-eon, who perfectly finished his senior debut season by winning two gold medals at the World Championships, is also a hot topic ^[6]. He completely blew away the regret of missing a medal after falling in the 1500m quarterfinals at the Milano Olympics by defeating Olympic triple gold medalist van 't Wout at this World Championship! ^[6]. Now a college freshman, Lim Jong-eon expressed his bold ambition to compete in at least two more Olympics, saying, "Like Hwang Dae-heon, I want to compete in my third Olympics at age 28" ^[6]. Releasing a cute TMI about failing his course registration, let's keep cheering for our Lim Jong-eon's dazzling sprint in the future!
