⛸️ Choi Min-jeong Hits 103 World Tour Medals! Retirement Season Highlights 🛼 - 2026.11.02
Hello, fans! 🛼
In her final season before retirement, Choi Min-jeong keeps on racing without a break. Here's more from Montreal that we haven't covered yet!
🥇 103 Career Medals and the 'GOAT' Title
Choi Min-jeong won her 102nd and 103rd medals in the ISU Short Track World Tour [1]. These are from the World Tour (including its predecessor, the World Cup) since the 2014-2015 season. Counting Olympic medals, she has 7 in total (4 gold, 3 silver), making her the Korean athlete with the most Olympic medals ever [1] [4]. Her 4 Winter Olympic golds tie with Jeon Yi-kyung as the most by a Korean athlete [1]. Some articles even say she deserves to be called the 'GOAT' 😲
🔥 A 0.063-Second Comeback in the 1000m
The women's 1000m final was short track at its finest. Kim Gil-li fell and was eliminated in the heats, so Choi reached the final alone [1]. She raced against three Canadian skaters and Belgium's Hanne Desmet [2]. Choi stayed in fourth, waited for her moment, then went wide on the outside with two laps to go and jumped to second. On the final corner, she cut inside and passed Courtney Sarault [2]. She crossed the line just 0.063 seconds ahead [2]. 😍
🛼 A Blade-Thrust Silver in the Relay
In the women's 3000m relay, Korea handed the baton to Choi in third [2]. She cut inside on the last corner to pass Canada and thrust her skate blade forward, but Italy finished just 0.014 seconds ahead [2]. Canada received a penalty, and Korea won silver for the second straight event [6]. Silver is a little bittersweet, but her refusal to give up was amazing 👏
📅 What's Next? 1500m on the 2nd, Seoul Mokdong on the 20th
Choi is set to compete in the 1500m, her main event, on the 2nd [6]. After returning home, the team will prepare for the World Tour 3rd leg in Korea [2]. The Korea Skating Union announced the 2026/27 ISU Short Track World Tour will run for three days from November 20 to 22 at Seoul's Mokdong Ice Rink [3]. This event is introduced as Choi's final World Tour appearance, and young future athletes will be able to watch national team and world-class athletes compete [3]. What a chance to cheer her on in person! 🇰🇷
🏁 The Farewell Stage: 2027 Worlds
After the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics in February, Choi said that event was her last Olympics [2]. She passed the national team trials in April, but she has already shared her plan to step away from the national team after this season [2]. The 2027 World Championships in Seoul next March are expected to be her farewell stage [2] [1]. On her SNS, she said, "This season is my last season," and vowed to "pour everything out so there are no regrets" [1]. 😭
We'll cheer for the 'queen' through her final season, and we'll be back with more news soon! 💛
