🎻 Han-na Chang Writes New History at Seoul Arts Center!

Absolutely massive news! World-renowned cellist and conductor Han-na Chang has been appointed as the first female musician president of the Seoul Arts Center since its opening ! She has built incredible expertise performing with top-tier orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic. To have an artist with such tremendous professionalism leading Korea's representative arts institution, I'm so excited to see what new breeze she will bring to the Seoul Arts Center! 👏

🎹 Seong-jin Cho's Chopin Enchants Baltimore

We can't leave out the news of our eternal Chopin specialist, pianist Seong-jin Cho! Active mainly in Berlin since winning the Chopin Competition in 2015, Seong-jin Cho recently showcased Chopin's waltz melodies in Baltimore ^[1]. The maestro's class is truly permanent. It's so proud to see him continuing wonderful collaborations with the world's top orchestras! 😍

🌟 Violinist Hyun-jae Lim Plays a Miracle

There was truly touching news this week. Violinist Hyun-jae Lim won the Elmar Oliveira Competition in the US this year, following his victory at the Seoul International Music Competition last year ^[5]! He had a long 4-year hiatus due to a sudden traffic accident in 2020, but he overcame all of it and started a new musical life in a wheelchair. Listening to him play the Sibelius Violin Concerto almost brought me to tears 😭. He says he is happier playing now than ever before, and I wholeheartedly cheer for his future!

Crazy Chemistry of Cello and Piano! Kian Soltani & Jae-hong Park

Did you hear that Busoni Competition winner pianist Jae-hong Park and world-renowned cellist Kian Soltani are holding a duo recital? ^[2] They will perform Rachmaninoff's 'Cello Sonata in G minor' at this concert! Just imagining how these two artists will unravel the immense tension and narrative of this piece, known as the pinnacle of romantic sonatas, gives me goosebumps! 🤩

🏛️ Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra Comes Closer to Citizens

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra is stepping right into the daily lives of citizens this year with an integrated brand called 'Everyday Classic' ^[3]! Isn't it amazing that they are holding a total of 49 performances annually? In particular, Music Director Jaap van Zweden has been conducting the 'Very Special Concert' without pay every year since 2023, presenting collaborative stages with musicians with disabilities ^[3]. Taking care of social values as well as musical perfection, the Seoul Phil is truly awesome! 💖

💿 Flutist Ji-hee Han X Pianist Lang Lang!

Flutist Ji-hee Han is releasing her debut album 'Carl Reinecke Flute Works' through the Deutsche Grammophon label on the 24th ^[4]. What's even more surprising is that she played the sonata for flute and piano 'Undine' with pianist Lang Lang! Lang Lang highly praised that Ji-hee Han poured her whole heart into it, so I definitely have to listen to this album! 🎧

There was so much overwhelming news this week, right? I'll be back next week with more fun and fruitful classical music news! Have a week full of ear candy, bye! 👋
