Hello, fans! 🎮 Are you ready to keep your wallet closed? Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and free demos are everywhere. Here are the stories you don't want to miss!

🔥 Standout Next Fest Demos

First up is Body Count. It's a game about reviving extinct beasts and battling them, where a single defeat means death 😱 The demo runs from October 19 to 26, and the full version launches on PC via Steam on October 30 ^[1].

Annyeong Seoul: Itaewon Edition is another must-see. Set in a near-future Seoul facing an asteroid impact, it follows protagonist 'Ra-yeon' as she chases clues tied to a government space evacuation project ^[2]. Players explore Seoul rendered in 2.5D pixel art and solve environmental puzzles. The new demo expands playable areas and adds new puzzles, and it supports 10 languages including Korean ^[2].

Norma is a 2D pixel puzzle adventure about the gap between rich and poor ^[3]. The full game will have six zones and is planned for Q4 2027 ^[3]. Steam Deck owners, take note: it can be played through experimental compatibility, but it has not received official Steam Deck verification 🧐 ^[3].

Waterpaw Expedition is a 4-player co-op action game where gun-toting pups dive into the deep sea ^[4]. Besides combat and exploration, there are mini-games like volleyball and racing, plus chase sequences fleeing a giant water dragon 😂 ^[4]. The free demo is open, so grab a friend and give it a taste!

🎲 Demo Party for Strategy Fans

If you love strategy, this Next Fest is paradise. According to the video, 37 of the 38 games featured have free demos you can play right now, including Tropico 7 and the new Skirmish mode in Stronghold 4 ^[8]. The event runs until the 26th, so don't wait too long ⏰ ^[15].

💎 Upcoming Releases to Watch

Wailing Island lets you collect over 100 creatures and turn an island into a paradise 🌴 The PC version will be available through Xbox PC and Steam ^[5].

We're also adding the Dice Vaders review to your list. The reviewer named it the indie game they've enjoyed most in recent years for its mechanics and brain-teasing fun 🧠 It's a roguelike strategy game, and the reviewed version is PC (Steam) ^[6].

Squadron 42 has arrived on Steam after 12 years 🚀 A long wait is finally over ^[9].

In addition, the cyberpunk action roguelike ReBlade: The Death Spiral offers a playable demo during Next Fest ^[10], and the modern turn-based tactics game Ghost Justice is set for PC in 2027 ^[11]. The HD pixel art A-RPG Arisen Force: Vonimir also has a demo ^[12]. If you like indies, keep an eye on the puzzle platformer DOSMIC ^[13].

🗣️ Industry Talk

Valve is handing Steam's featured deal recommendations to an algorithm 🤖 Personalized sales are set to arrive in early 2027, which could give overlooked games a second chance. Some point out, however, that more visits and wishlists don't necessarily mean more sales ^[14].

Concerns over AI copycats also continue. Spanish developer Digital Sun postponed the Steam public playtest for its upcoming game 'ReVamp', as generative AI is increasingly used to reverse-engineer unfinished builds and release copies first 😥 ^[7]. The team shifted to limited Discord-based testing, and the large public test has been pushed to January 2027 ^[7].

The wallet battle continues this week! Start sampling the demos that caught your eye 💸 See you next time! 🎮
